Memorial Day 2023

Hey folks,

Welcome to the ClearGivers blog — it’s so lovely to have you with us.

Here, you’ll read stuff we find interesting, cool, and all about living and building that Good Community Life. (#socialimpactbusiness)

A quick reminder about who we are:

The ClearGivers Platform is a gift registry for charities, exclusively supplied by small businesses.

Small businesses sell stuff → charities wish-list stuff → donors buy stuff.

Click the links above to find out more, join in and help out. You can follow us on IG or FB (we’re @ClearGivers). We’re new, small and spunky, so if you’ve got ideas and want to join in, holler!

A little reminder of what Memorial Day was, is and can mean to us all.

Memorial Day is the last Monday in May — this year falling on Monday May 29th. It’s in place to honour the men and women who have died while serving in the US military.

If you’d like to find out more, check out some of the military records on display through My Heritage. It’s a great way to dip your toes into American military history and figure out some cool personal facts.

It was originally named Decoration Day and came to exist following the Civil War. The first national observance of the day took place on May 30, 1868. 1971 saw Decoration Day become an official federal holiday.

It’s traditional for American families to visit cemeteries and memorials on Memorial Day to spend some time remembering and honouring those who gave their lives for the country.

There’s a connected yet different way to support your fellow countrymen and women: blood donation. Cedars-Sinai is holding several blood drives in the run up to Memorial Day. Remember, one donation can save up to three lives. And you can feel good about having earned that extra biscuit ;)

More recently and on a lighter note though, Memorial Day has also unofficially come to stand in for the first day of summer. The long weekend is handy for folks to throw their first summer parties!

Check out this handy list of Memorial Day weekend events happening in and around LA. What’s awesome about this particular list? This one’s our favourite for Memorial Day! Seriously, though. MD often means intergenerational vsits, and while we certainly love and support all kinds of extra-curriculars, MomsLA specialises in compiling good, family-friendly activities that are sure to give you and your loved ones plenty of fun moments for the memory banks.

The ClearGivers Platform was set up to create major social impact in a business setting. We work hard to connect small businesses into the charity supply chain.

We are passionate about creating change for good in our community, and see our platform as a step in the right direction. Come find out more at www.ClearGivers.org, and get in touch! We would love to hear from you.
